| Red Knights Motorcycle Club Maryland Chapter 4 |
| Red Knights Motorcycle Club Honors a Young Firefighter Thursday Jan. 13, 2005. The Red Knights Firefighters Motorcycle Club, Maryland 4 presented Justin K. Lucas with a check to further his education. Justin Lucas is also the 2004 recipient of other firefighters scholarship named to honor a fallen young firefighter, Justin Hutchinson. This scholarship is presented to the student in Charles County Maryland with the highest academic score in the fire science program. The Red Knights scholarship fund now piggy backs the Justin Hutchinson scholarship to increase the amount of money for the winner. Justin Hutchinson, the nephew of Maryland 4 President Troy 'Hutch' Hutchinson, was killed by a drunk driver in 2001 at the age of 19. He was a Volunteer Lieutenant with the Benedict Volunteer Fire Dept The Red Knights Motorcycle club has decided to present a check to three students each year starting in 2005. The club was chartered in March 2003 as the southern Maryland chapter of the Red Knights international Motorcycle club, hence the Maryland Four chapter draws membership from the Southern Maryland counties of Charles, St. Mary’s, and Calvert. Three new rides will take place in southern Maryland to raise money for these individuals who will serve this region of the state of Maryland. Maryland's three southern counties are proudly staffed 100% by volunteers. The recipient of this scholarship is selected based on His or Her performance academically in the study of the fire sciences. Now here is a little about this year's winner, Justin Lucas. Justin is the son of Ronnie and Wanda (deceased) Lucas. His parents are life members of The Potomac Heights Volunteer Fire Dept. He also has a sister who recently graduated from Salisbury State University. Justin is enrolled in the Firefighter Cadet program. Having been brought up in the fire house, it is his second home. The Cadet program takes a student through several MIFI classes, Fire fighter 1, Firefighter 2, EMT, Hazmat Ops., Rescue Technician, Auto and Heavy Equip Extrication. His accomplishments are carried through most all his endeavors. H maintains a 3.7 GPA, is a member of the National Honor Society, and a former member of the Lackey High school football team who ended the season as the runner up at the State championship. He is able to run in the top ten members at his station while doing all of the above! This is a ton of accomplishments for anyone, much less a young man who is still on the younger side of 18 years old. The sum of the efforts set fourth by Justin is to pursue a career in the fire department and dedicate his life to Public Safety The cadet program in southern Maryland works within the public schools system. Students in the program carry a regular semester of classes and are released in the afternoon to study under the University of Maryland Institute of Fire Rescue (http://www.mfri.org). These efforts by the university and the local fire rescue assertions will hopefully perpetuate a steady stream of well-trained professionals filling our fire houses. Please join the Red Knights Motorcycle Club in honoring this fine young man, and his family for raising him to be the person he is!
